Iteration 2

Iteration 1 was not a success, with a team velocity of 0. Let's see how they managed to draw lessons from this first try.

Planning iteration 2

Iteration 2 planning phase

The planning and estimating round for the second iteration went on with the following commitment from the teams:

Story Estimate Team
One base circled by a fence with 2 gated entries 5 min 1
1 survival bunker for all the base's population (ca. 40) 5 min 2
2 warehouses for robots storage each with one large door 30 min 1 and 2
1 guard at each gate 1 min 1

Here are the stories leftover from preceding iteration:

Story Estimate Team
The base must be kept enterily lit by night 5 min 1
Control tower for monitoring traffic 5 min 2
One team for controling shuttles traffic 1 min 2
An armory 5 min 1

Iteration 2 sample stories

We may note the sudden rise in estimation time for the hangar, something which does not seem more complicated than the base or bunker. Interestingly, the base and the bunker were not reestimated althought they were not completed nor thoroughly tested in the preceding round. Some items disappeared from the radar, although th

For this iteration, I let the team reconfigure with 4 and 5 developers respectively, leaving only one tester for the two teams. These figures give a project velocity of 41 with a focus ratio of 45%, much like the preceding iteration.

Building iteration 2

Tests drawn from the first iteration stayed identical, with some precisions added (they are already taken into account in this rendering). Some tests were added by the single tester for the robots hangar: Each warehouse must have enough room for 10 robots, taking into  account that a robot measures 2x2 lego spikes and there must at least one spike between robots, plus a central alley of 2 spikes.

Team 1

Team 1 rebuilt its basecamp according to specifications, yielding:

Base camp at iteration 2

The basecamp passed successfully QA checks, giving 6 min. worth of story points (5 for camp + 1 for guards). The armory was also accepted, although it was out of perimeter for this iteration, for another 5 min.

Team 2

Team 2 completed the bunker according to the specs:

Bunker at iteration 2

This gave 5 min. worth of story points.

Delivery

After iteration 2, both teams delivered 16 story points worth of product, for a base value of 90 mins which implies a focus factor of 18%: Not really brilliant but at least better than Iteration 1 0%.
